5 Things I wish I knew Before Hiking Dawang Peak

#1 The best way to get to Wuyishan is the Wuyishan Airport

#1 The best way to get to Wuyishan: Because I was already going to go to Fuzhou, I took a flight to Fuzhou Changle International Airport. In order to get to Wuyishan from there, I had to take a bus from the airport to the Fuzhounan (Fuzhou South) high speed rail. After that I got off at Nanpingshi (Nanping) and then took a Didi to my hotel in Wuyishan.

I wish that I had just flown straight to the Wuyishan Airport and skipped going to Fuzhou entirely. If flights are reasonable to Wuyishan, even if they cost a little more, the convenience and simplicity might end up saving you time and money.

#2 The hotels in Sangu are amazing for getting to the hiking trails

The best hotel that I stayed at was the Ancient Street No. 5 Cloud Inn Wuyishan. I did not love that it smelled like smoke in the halls but luckily the room was gigantic and smelled completely fine. They gave me tea samples as a welcome package (every hotel I stayed at did this!) and were really helpful with anything I needed. I would suggest seraching for a hotel here if you are planning to hike.

#3 Bring an umbrella

Even though the weather was completely clear when I started hiking, the rain clouds moved in so fast. I ended up needing to buy an umbrella in town before heading out on the hike. I imagine this could happen at any time of year (though especially in the summer months during the wet season).

#4 The steep stairs are textured and often have guardrails

I think this hike looks particularly sketchy because many pictures show people on it with no protection on a really steep cliff. In reality, it seems a lot of safety precautions have been taken. That said, still be very careful.

#5 I should have planned to do more hikes

If I had known how accesible the hiking was and also how amazing, I definitely would have budgeted more time to stay in the area and hiked much more there!
